I am a weathered survivor of nearly 6 technology transitions, a dotcom bust that also led to a “failure to launch IPO”, managed through 9.11, faced near-bankruptcy twice, conducted hard bank negotiations with significant debt - immediately after 45% compounded annual growth, 70% revenue growth in 1 year, added 1100 employees and then reduced nearly 1800 employees and lost $210M of revenue in 24 months. During all these periods we added new products, end of life a product category that was 90% of revenue in 2002, purchased a competitor that had lots of cash at the beginning of my first crisis. We ultimately had a successful exit in 2017 - 17 years after the crisis and I learned more than my previous 18 years!
